A Question for the NMC and Healthcare Leaders

When the NMC encourages managers to seek advice from them before making a referral, what safeguards are in place to ensure that advice comes from qualified people, free from bias or the damaging internal agenda that has caused so much harm already? If advice at the front end simply affirms the NMC’s own narrative, how can nurses feel safe to practise? How can our hospitals be staffed safely? And how can anyone — professionals or the public — have confidence in a system that polices itself without genuine accountability? It’s time we started asking the hard questions about who is protecting who — and whether the system truly serves the people it claims to.
